Vera Elizabeth Jones doesn't need anyone.
She learned that early on -thanks to her parents who mastered the art of disappearing and an ex who led her to question herself. Independence isn't just a part of Vera's personality,it's armor. Wanting to get far away from Denver Colorado, Transferring to the University of Michigan to study psychology is her reset button. New campus, new start, zero emotional attachments. Vera has a plan to graduate and pursue a career in psychology. With zero distractions.
What happens when she meets Blake?
Blake Thomas Andrews is the captain of Michigan's hockey team, a senior with NHL scouts watching his every move, and an array of girls that drop to their knees for him, his future is certain. The goal is to get drafted, preferably by the San Jose Sharks, and don't mess anything up with any kind of distractions. Especially not a smart-mouthed transfer student who looks at him like he's just a random guy on campus, and not a star hockey player.
Unfortunately for both of them, life doesn't care about their silly plans.
With an ex boyfriend who doesn't take a hint, Vera needs some help. With Blake constantly getting into fights on the ice, he needs an image that shows he's stable. There's only one solution to both of their problems, a lie that benefits the both of them.
fake dating
forced proximity
"enemies" to lovers
college romance
he fell first and harder
Little did they know, Pretending isn't easy, and the lines between real and fake can blur.
What happens when pretending feels safer than telling the truth and Blake realizes he wants something he knows he can't have, while Vera realizes she's falling for someone she shouldn't have?
