It all started when they met at school, but it almost came to an end when Black Adam came to Earth to take out Billy, also known as Captain Marvel. Maxine knows that Billy is Captain Marvel and knows that he is a member of the Justice League. In Billy's and Black Adam's fight it looked like Black Adam had Captain Marvel beat. Disregarding her own safety Maxine rushes to Billy's aid only to be struck be one of Black Adam's lightning bolts. Severely injured Maxine struggles to stay alive, Billy goes on a rampage to defeat Black Adam (which he does), and Maxine is happy to see her friend is safe, but there's one thing she wants to see and that's to see Billy as himself. With the simple word SHAZAM, Billy went back to his thirteen year old self, holding his friend in his arms as she slowly slipped away with a smile on her face. Billy pleaded with the great wizard Shazam to save Maxine's life. "Speak the sacred word Billy Baston and the power of Captain Marvel will enter her body and save her life." Bill says the word that makes him turn into Captain Marvel. The lightning bolt that transformed him also went straight into Maxine.
