I sat on the rotting old dock, gazing into the night sky. I, not being able to sleep, decided to take in the scenery and listen to the sounds of nature. I gazed into the water at my own reflection. Suddenly the image became distorted with the movement of the water. The water was no longer still and calm. I looked across the lake to see the cause of the disturbance and saw a strange creature dragging itself out of the water. I watched in awe as the beast’s head turned around and, across the widespread lake, made eye contact with me for a split second, its eyes glowing a shimmering blue-green like the waves of the ocean. Before I could tell what it was it vanished into the bushes without a trace. The water was still again and the creatures of the forest continued singing as if nothing had happened.
