Duncan drew another breath, forcing himself to continue despite the strain in his voice. "The crown has named me his successor," he said, each word slow and deliberate. "And I have been betrothed to Prince Aerion Targaryen." The words hung in the air like thunder before a storm. Shock hit me all at once, sharp enough to steal the breath from my lungs, and my eyes widened as realization dawned. I stared at him in disbelief, trying to make sense of everything he had just said, yet the only response that came bursting out of me was loud enough to shake the hall. "What the FUCK?!"
