The year is 1910 in Hudson, New York, and everyone has seemed to have their futures figured out besides 17 year old Emmalynn Hawthorne. Her three older brothers, Theodore, Jameson, and Elton, were viewed as perfect in the eyes of their mother. Elton was getting married by the end of the summer, Jameson was attending Princeton, and Theodore was destined to take over their father's law firm. Her mother wants her to attend a finishing school in England to marry someone of the same or higher social status than her. During the summer, her mother deemed it necessary for their attractive and wealthier neighbor, Jack Darby, to teach Emmalynn how to be the perfect lady in the eyes of a man. The catch? Emmalynn loathes Jack and Jack has other plans than just teaching her how to be a lady. The two's unexpected friendship starts to flourish as they spend most of their summer days and nights together. As the summer comes to an end, Emmalynn must decide the fate of her future: either be the perfect wife like her mother taught her to be, or decide her own path.

Six years. One island. A life shaped by necessity. In the late summer of 1913, Matilda arrives in Cowes believing she has stepped into a quieter, more generous world. After years marked by illness and responsibility, the island feels open and permissive - a place where days are orderly, futures are legible, and freedom appears effortless. Regatta Week confirms it: the harbour glitters, society is confident, and Edward Harrington's careful courtship offers affection, status, and a life that fits perfectly. But Cowes runs on more than display. Beneath the surface lies the work that keeps the island moving - its railways, its harbour, its industries - and the people who understand how fragile that balance really is. When Matilda briefly encounters Tom Mercer, whose family engineering firm underpins the island's functioning, she senses a different kind of recognition: not admiration, but understanding. As war arrives and necessity replaces certainty, Matilda is drawn steadily into the invisible labour that holds Cowes together. While men leave and are celebrated, those who remain become indispensable. Through crisis, coordination, and quiet problem-solving, Matilda discovers the difference between being permitted and being required - and between a future that is approved and one that is chosen. Spanning 1913 to 1919, Matilda traces how a woman learns not to escape her world, but to see it clearly - and to claim a place within it that cannot be withdrawn when the emergency ends.

One moment, Emma Scott is in her college room in 2015, and the next she's in 1921 falling in love with an ex-soldier with a charming smile and a secret... Emma's an old hand at time travel: the first time she was pulled backwards she was ten years old. She can sense the memories that stone, fabric and wood have soaked up: usually she just sees them, but sometimes she ends up living them. She knows the drill: (1) avoid getting pulled backwards in the first place; (2) avoid the object that's pulled you backwards; (3) prevent the memory that imprints on the object, or, if all that fails, (4) wait it out until you're back in the right time. The problem is that the object was an old ring that her Granny Alice bequeathed to her, and Emma last saw it on the finger of her great grandmother, fleeing into a crowded London street. Now Emma is trying to find the ring and go back to her own time, but her great grandmother has vanished, and meanwhile there's Charlie Lawrence who's making Emma wonder if she even wants to go back at all...

Kayla Madison is a normal-ish sixteen-year old whose main desire is simple-make it through high school without embarrassing herself too much in the process. It doesn't help that she's being followed by dark figures no one else sees. When a man with incredible speed, unbelievable power, strange old-fashion clothes, and an obnoxious personality threatens her life, she discovers she is a rare "two-worlder" -a person with one parent from Earth and the other from Earth Prime. She escapes another attack by jumping through a portal to the alternate dimension, much to the chagrin of her protector. As if managing without electricity, cars, and phones on the more Edwardian world weren't enough stress; she finally meets her long-absent father, a scientist in the top-secret field of Trans-Dimensional Travel. Things get more complicated when she realizes her best friend's father, or rather the Earth Prime version of him, might have been the person that orchestrated the assaults. ___ Thanks for reading! I've been working on this story for quite a while and have drafts for a five book series. I would love feedback on what I can do to make it a stronger story. If there are things you enjoy, let me know (so I don't change those parts.) :) All portions of the story have been submitted and final chapters will visible by Nov 18, 2023. Among other degrees, I have my MFA in creative writing. I am a science teacher when I am not writing.
