The bright afternoon darkened instantly as full grey masses floated over the sinking sun. Flaunting disdain for the sun's waning efforts, thick droplets of yellow-sulphur rain occasionally fell to the ground, then ceased as quickly as they had begun. The change was beginning; first, the loud bawling of birds, where we didn't notice them before, and they, with other animals, relocating for the evening shift. The twilight begins to play with the colour spectrum, and our vision. "Shallow water overtides" pulled by the lug of lunar voids, shifting cross-winds, and a washed out mist-covered moon connect to one big, bright star, and now reveal the falling peak of another day: one more 24, lost to memory. When it happens-the day dissolving into twilight, then evening-it always happens so much faster than we expect, and we are standing unready, not in the changing moment; we do not change, but the day (and time) has. The 'natural' world is like that. A peal of thunder exploded from the sky, so close that everyone in the park screamed and ducked. Two crooked bolts of glowing, electrified white heat snapped from the heavens-one shot into the earth like a laser.
