Lurking within quiet, unassuming Casey Osbourne is the most dangerously powerful Gift of any living mage - "alive" being a critical qualifier. Magic like his usually kills its bearer. But, Casey doesn't know that yet.
As far as everyone is concerned, Casey is simply an ordinary guy fading into the background behind his amazingly creative and much beloved found family: Avery, autistic, genderfluid, gorgeous, with perfect purple curls; Tara, a seven-foot tall feline monster; Mark, unloved and whose only talent seems to be his creative profanity; and Simon, an actual elf, and not nearly as subtle as he thinks about checking out Casey's ... ahem... well. You get the point.
Then there's Casey. Jeans, sneakers, a mundane haircut, and a weird ESP-ish talent he's had all his life. He does a fantastic job of blending in with the wallpaper, and he likes it that way.
That all changes when magic, real magic, comes into his life, and suddenly he's the farthest thing from ordinary. His Power is the kind wars ignite over - and the sort of Gift that saves worlds. Untrained and wildly unprepared, Casey and his friends are about to be flung across two worlds to stop a villain from their past before he triggers a catastrophic civil war.
If they're lucky, and if Casey can master his magic, they might even survive.
