She's in senior year, trying to scrape up enough money to make it into NYU, but knows it won't be quite enough. So she works at the city carnival for a week. She likes the job, it pays well enough, so she keeps going. Every few days she switches booths. She never thought she would happen to meet Farkle Minkus, the quietest kid in school and the resident genius. He comes to the carnival almost every night, just to Riley's stations, then disappears without a trace.
