"If you want to paint, I'll stand and be your canvas. If you want to sculpt, turn me into clay and stone. Let me be your art, Yara, because I know your art is your soul. And if I get even a piece of that, I'll live forever."
Yara al-Jazar is broken. Raised in the Gotham slums, she did what she had to to survive, and did what she could to protect the only people she cared about- her little siblings. She could never rely on anyone; not her drugged-out parents, not social workers determined to tear her family apart, and especially not heroes. But when a deal she was managing for her boss goes wrong, thwarted by none other than Batman, he takes pity on her and offers her a deal; tell her everything she knows, and he'll take care of her and her siblings. But even as she's brought back to Wayne Manor and meets the bat-kids, she finds herself lonelier than ever. Alfred watches her siblings, and the batkids, well...Jason hates her, Dick ignores her, Tim is apathetic, Damien is cruel, and Duke is almost never around, always sneaking out to who knows where late at night. Yara has no one, and as her mind begins to betray her, she spirals into something she swore she'd never do. But as old threats from her past close in, and new bonds start to snap into place, Yara begins to wonder whether or not she's so alone after all, and maybe this family, as crazy and messed up as it is, is the perfect one for her.
A Batfamily AU with OC characters, angst, fluff, and found family.
