He woke at 7:00 every morning, brewed the same black coffee, caught the same bus to work, and returned to his small apartment before sunset. His neighbors barely knew his name, and his coworkers often joked that if routine had a face, it would look exactly like Ethan. He never believed in ghosts. Ghost stories were nothing more than entertainment to him-campfire tales meant to scare children.

Welcome to The Atlantic Hotel in Berlin, Maryland-a grand 1895 Victorian landmark where the history is rich, the ghosts are restless, and the rules don't quite apply after midnight. For generations, guests and locals have whispered about the little girl who haunts the second-floor hallway, her phantom red rubber ball echoing through the wooden corridors. Most people check out in a panic or try to scold her into silence. But Leo Vance, a cynical corporate manager hired to modernize the fading hotel, refuses to buy into the local folklore. He's here to fix a failing business, not coddle a ghost. Enter Clara, a sharp-tongued local historian whose family ties to the hotel run deeper-and darker-than Leo could ever imagine. Forced to work together to unearth the building's secrets and quiet the supernatural disturbances, the friction between them quickly turns into an electric, slow-burn tension. The ghost isn't just trying to scare them. She's trying to send a message. And as the line between the past and present blurs, Leo and Clara will discover that some secrets refuse to stay buried beneath the floorboards. Will they survive the night, or will they become part of the hotel's permanent history?

And they are tired of waiting in the dark. When the lake's stagnant, silt-heavy water begins to bleed into the pipes of the house, the boundary between the living and the damned begins to dissolve. Elena soon discovers that the house isn't a sanctuary; it's a lure. And the lake doesn't just want their secrets-it wants to trade places. In the depths of Blackwood, the only thing scarier than what's in the water is the darkness already inside your own home.
