After the unfortunate explosion that damaged part of the football field and the majority of Veronica's heart, Westerburg High has returned to a semi-regular routine of less tormenting and more friendship. Though everyone else is happy with the lack of cliques and overall torture, Veronica's stuck: while she's perfectly glad to be friends with a reformed McNamara and recovering Martha, something's missing. Something that Veronica can never get back and possibly never truly live without: her first love. Toss that in the bowl of cold, companion-less nights with just a pinch of haunting gunshots and drain cleaner-blue-stained lips and you've got yourself a recipe for nightmares. [Contrary to the cover, this book is based mostly on the musical rather than the film.]

To honour his memory, Jasmine takes her brother's former nickname, JD, and begins going by that name herself. She has been through ten high schools, and she doubts her most recent one, Westerburg High, will be any different.
