Hello everyone! This is my Johnny Cade x y/n fanfiction. Just a little heads up, this story doesn't take place during the time that The Outsiders does. It's kind of like an AU where Johnny and Dally didn't die, but all the other events happened. We'll say this is like, 6 months after. Also, I know that S. E. Hinton wrote a few books that take place after and have Outsiders characters in them, but I haven't read those in a hot minute so this won't be consistent with those books. Sorry! I hope you enjoy!

In the early 2000s, Cortland Beck lives out of her sun-faded hippie van, Betty, chasing highways like they might lead her somewhere kinder. She's twenty-one, broke in the poetic way, surviving on gas-station snacks, burned CDs, and the belief that if she keeps moving, the past can't catch her. Mateo Romano was born into rules he never wrote. The eldest son of a single mother in Detroit, he stepped into his father's marijuana business after gang violence took him out. Protect the family. Don't sell to kids. Don't make mistakes. Mateo follows the rules because someone has to-but when a deal in Vancouver turns into a police setup, everything unravels. He runs. No plan, no backup, just adrenaline and fear. And in a moment of pure desperation, he steals the first running vehicle he sees: a battered van parked on the roadside. He doesn't know someone's sleeping in the back. Cortland wakes up to a stranger driving her van across a Canadian highway, and the night explodes-screaming, threats, swerving headlights, hearts pounding out of rhythm. An uneasy truce is struck over a shared joint and a mutual hatred of cops. Mateo needs to get back to Detroit to save his family. Cortland refuses to give up Betty. The compromise? A reluctant road trip neither of them asked for. And somewhere between miles and moments, they fall in love. Not loudly. Not easily. But honestly-like two people who recognize each other's scars in the dark. Detroit is waiting. Reality always is. And loving Mateo may cost Cortland the one thing she's spent her whole life protecting. Her freedom.

In the summer of 1975, a runaway from Iowa and a drifter from Nebraska meet in South Dakota and travel through the state together. They go on as many wild adventures as they can in their short time together.

Lucifer is a run away disguised as a hippie (not by choice) who is trans 🏳️‍⚧️ 17 year old Alastor is a graduate looking to start a business in music. 18 year old Adam is an illegal bounty hunter who has dark intentions towards Lucifer. Sage is a female former hippie ex-military combat medic hired by Lucifer's trans 🏳️‍⚧️ girlfriend to protect him and get him to northern Washington. Lucifer and his girlfriend have a child named Charlie after an accidental pregnancy. Viper is sage brother who worked alongside her in the military as a combat medic. Micheal, Gabriel and Raphael are Lucifer's brothers sadly they weren't old enough to know the events and they were lied to about their older brother. Lucifer holds no ill will towards them.

Caitlin is just your every day girl, slighty on the strange side but who isn't? Aside from the fact that she's an obsessive vegetarian (don't kill the cows!) and a bit of a music hoarder, she's totally average. She had left it there, assuming she wouldn't need it. She hopped in the car, stripped from her beach clothes and got into her armor set. She knew someone was going to die, deep inside her. She prayed it wouldn't be JJ. She ran out of the parking lot, hopped the fence again, and ran towards the fight.
