His hands slid from her waist, the heat of his palms pressing through the thin fabric of her nightgown, tracing the sharp, undeniable curve of her hip. "You are the woman I will be sharing my life, my money, my fame, my everything," his voice dropped to a sibilant, invasive whisper that left her skin cold. "... and my bed." He pulled her flush against his chest, the finality of the move stealing her breath. His voice turned instantly, dropping into a gravelly, obsidian low that promised absolute control. "You shall have the best husband the world will envy you for. And," his grip tightened, a bruising promise against her bone, "try to run away, and you will witness how a predator traps their prey and feasts until there's nothing left but bone." He brought his face close enough that his breath mingled with hers, the final, chilling promise delivered with absolute certainty. "In the dance on the chessboard, you will be the King, I will be the Pawn."
