"Rare is this love, keep it covered
I need you to run to me, run to me, lover
Run until you feel your lungs bleeding"
I could feel my toes digging into the sand with each stride. My legs screamed for me to stop, but I knew I would never stop till I was far away. I ran not looking back. I knew what I would see. The old red shack my parents bought 25 years ago, with dreams of rebuilding, falling apart at the seams. The old keg my mother bought the day my father left her. Rusted and charred from my mother burning it. The blue truck my father bought my mother on their 5th anniversary. Sitting there waiting for someone to drive it.
I looked at the trail of clothing that fell out of my small suitcase. I didn't even close it fully. I followed the trail with my eyes till I saw her. My mother sitting at the end, slouched and staring right into me. Looking at me like she never has. Even from that far i could see the sadness and anger swirling around in her eyes. I can see the tear streaks down her face. The regret in her voice when she yelled " Lizzie please don't leave me like he did, you are all I have left".
I sat in the sand and stared at her. I could feel my heart crying for my mother. But I knew she would never change. Be the woman I once knew. I knew that I couldn't stay there. At least not for now. So I stood up and ran. Ran down the coast. Ran away from my hell.
