It was 7:50 a.m. when I arrived at school. The hallway was packed, with students standing by their lockers or gathered in groups talking. My new shoes scraped against the tiles as I walked, the sound getting swallowed by the noise around me. "Remember, you owe me because I covered for you this weekend," a student said as he walked past me. "Walk faster, I can't afford to be late," a girl said as she hurried inside, almost pushing me out of the way. Another girl followed closely behind her. I reached my locker and spun the combination before pulling it open. At least I wasn't late. I took out my calculus and French textbooks, tucking them into my bag one after the other. I was still arranging my books when I heard a voice behind me. "Hello." I continued what I was doing. Maybe he was talking to someone else. A few seconds passed. Then I felt a gentle tap on my shoulder. "Yes?" I turned. "You didn't hear me the first time?" His eyebrows knitted together in confusion. Should I lie? "Yes. Um, I was just getting my books and I didn't hear you." I gave him an awkward smile, hoping it would make the whole thing less weird. He stared at me for a second before nodding. "Are you Mina?" He leaned forward slightly
