In the heart of a crumbling Iowan town veiled by cornfields and secrets, Scarlett Wren had built her own kingdom of midnight justice. They told him there was a "problem child" ruining their order, a red wisp who needed caging. They forgot to mention the rest: the spells woven into her breath, the monsters she fought alone because no one else dared to. Cain expected an easy hunt. What he found was a girl who stared down the barrel of his gun and smiled like the devil had kissed her first. Scarlett was trouble in the shape of a girl, all barbed jokes and fierce, aching loneliness. She saw right through him - to the broken boy inside the man, the wolf still pacing behind his ribs. And Cain, for all his hardened instincts, felt the shift the moment their eyes met: the slow, inevitable doom of being claimed. The hunt turned into something hotter, darker, and far more dangerous than Cain had signed up for. The town's real sickness ran deeper than anyone guessed - into blood pacts, old gods, and rotting promises. Together, they would have to decide whether to destroy each other... or burn the town to the ground and start something wild and sacred in its place.

Upon encountering a certain underground group or cult of some sort (they don't know and honestly, I don't either... yet), they must leave the palace to ensure their safety. After fleeing the palace (for reasons not to be disclosed), they stumble upon Ebony, the self-proclaimed Princess of Mischief. Who tries to beat the crap out of them, only to be subdued by their mentor Perseus. With a name to clear and a country to fix, is there any hope for our young protagonists? Quite honestly, I doubt it. They're only moody teenagers after all. A close friend of mine encouraged me to let the world know of my writing. This is one of the earliest stories I have ever written, so I would greatly appreciate any constructive criticism my readers have to offer. That's all. Last year, I decided to write a bouquet of cozy fantasy short stories about plant people. It started as a way for me to explore and improve my writing, but also to hopefully create fantasy worlds full of wonder and adventure. The first tale introduces us to Gold Mary who tends to the Sunken garden. She serves a large plant community by finding them plots and nourishing them all. For the Garden is the body, and the plants are the soul. In the larger picture, we will meet more sentient plant people that inhabit other gardens in this forever growing world. Hope you like it! The story will resume next with "Lawn Dad," which follows Gold Mary's father.

This piece reflects on an everyday encounter inside a 7-Eleven where a quiet conversation between two strangers is interrupted by the pressure of someone who cannot wait their turn. What begins as a normal interaction quickly becomes a lesson in personal space, respect, and restraint. The moment holds tension: irritation builds, frustration rises, and the instinct to react grows stronger. Yet instead of choosing conflict, the narrator chooses calm. In that calmness lies a deeper message about dignity and self-control. This story explores how the smallest situations in life often reveal the biggest truths about people. Some rush through life without awareness of the space others occupy. Others choose to pause, observe, and protect their peace rather than escalate a moment into unnecessary conflict. It becomes a quiet reminder that not every battle needs to be fought with anger. Sometimes strength is found in patience and the ability to stand your ground without losing yourself. Through observation and reflection, the narrator transforms a simple experience into something larger-a reflection on how modern life pushes people into impatience and how easily respect for others can disappear in crowded, everyday spaces. Yet within that same space there is also the opportunity to choose another path: calm over chaos, awareness over aggression, and presence over rushing. In the end, the moment is not really about a line at a convenience store at all. It is about how people treat one another in small moments that most would overlook. It is about the silent power of choosing peace when irritation would be easier. And it is about remembering something simple that many have forgotten: Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do in a fast world is simply wait your turn.
