Before I Was Me is a quiet journey into the deepest corners of the soul - where awakening begins, where sins feel heavy, where the heart whispers, and where Allah calls us back. This book is not noise. It is breath. It is remembrance. It is a mirror for anyone who has ever felt lost, numb, disconnected, or aching for a return they can't explain. If you've ever carried a heaviness nobody could see... If you've ever wanted to come back to Allah after drifting too far... If you've ever felt life becoming loud and your soul becoming silent... Then this is your story too. Before you were you - you were already known. This is the journey back to that remembrance.

Copyright © 2025 Mayelin Luciano Santos. All rights reserved. First of all, welcome! all poems are written by me. In this first part, I invite you to dive into reflections on life, self-definition, and the power of words. Each poem is an exploration of how our actions speak louder than our words, how peace and happiness don't rely on external factors but are born within ourselves. Through these verses, I seek to share the journey of finding inner strength, self-respect, and the importance of protecting our peace. Here, words are not only meant to express but to transform. This book has a Spanish version called "Ecos de mi alma".

I cannot stand people. That's the truth. I go places by myself because of this. I'm trying to enjoy my own peace, my own space, and some fools just have to come in acting like they own everything. Sitting at the dog park, reading my book, trying to mind my business, and here they come-telling me what my dog should or shouldn't do. Hello? It's a dog park. Dogs are allowed to sniff, run, and do their thing. My dog wasn't aggressive. He was just being a dog. But these people? Absolute chaos. Can't even read the damn signs. Can't respect boundaries. So what did I do? I got in my car, left everything open, slammed the door, and let them know exactly how I feel. Go the f*** away. Handle your own business. Read the signs. Common sense doesn't seem to exist for some people. If you're going to walk your dog, walk it around the park. Don't come in here acting like you're the authority. My dog is fine. The park is fine. You? The problem. This is exactly why I do my own thing. Handle my own business. Stay out of other people's space. Keep your nonsense to yourself. People like this make it impossible to enjoy the simplest things. Some people just cannot comprehend respect, boundaries, or common sense. And I refuse to shrink or excuse their stupidity. I'm done being polite. I'm done explaining. I'm done letting people ruin my space. My dog, this park, my peace-untouchable. If you can't understand that, the problem isn't me. It's you. F*** them.

Have you ever felt like the problem in every room you enter? Like your presence is too loud, your silence too heavy, As if you makes others uncomfortable enough to leave? Laid to Rest: Whispers from the Edge of Pains is a raw and poetic reflection on what it means to carry wounds that never heal, to seek peace in a world that misleads your silence, and to question your place among those who once claimed to care. This collection speaks for the ones pushed aside, blamed, and left behind, those who feel everything too deeply. If you've ever been made to feel like you're "too much", or "not enough" these verse will sit beside you like a quiet companion and say: I SEE YOU.

This is rather an insight into my thoughts, and opinions on the world around me that I would like to share with you. Loving yourself is tough. Waking up every day with a proud sense of who you are can feel exhausting, or even impossible. But we all know, deep down, we can be the best versions of ourselves when we love ourselves fiercely and freely. Sometimes it takes mantras and prayers and sticky notes on the wall and chats in the mirror to make self-love stick. Poetry can help too.
