Jonah Perkins is a 18 year old who has anger issues and believes that he wont find someone who loves him for him and not his looks. When Jonah's dad gets tired of Jonah's attitude he sends him to an institution for boys like him.

I threw myself in front of a bus. I know, how depressing. Why did I attempt to kill myself? That's for me to know, and for you to find out. Anyway, that's how I ended up in Willow-Vale Mental Institution, or as most like to call it, the nut house. I don't regret it. In fact being referred to the home of the mentally insane was the second best thing that ever happened to me. So what's the best thing that ever happened to me? Him. My insanity cure.

When Sam was ten years old, his parents admitted him to a mental institution. Six years later, he's still sitting in a nut house from twelve to twelve, waiting for the day that they can't bring him back. His goal since he was thirteen years old has been to die, but then Mason comes along. Mason freaking Harpern, the boy who tried to kill himself and isn't afraid to get better, and isn't afraid of Sam and his walls. Sam never wanted to admit it, but when the time came, it never crossed his mind that Mason would be the one thing he left behind; his one regret.

Louis Tomlinson has always been terrified of the outside world and its dangers. He has severe social anxiety, and it has a choke hold on him, making the small, feathered hair boy tremble in fear whenever in social situations. His panic attacks have seemed to be getting worse and has left his family with a feeling of hopelessness and that the only other option left is to send him to the mental institution, Meadow Lane. This is where he meets Harry Styles, a patient that has been there for five years, sent by his parents who could not handle his Borderline Personality Disorder (BPS). Will Louis be able to save Harry from his angry and crumbled state, and will Harry be able to give Louis the strength to not fear this love they begin to build? Sometimes people just need to take a leap of faith and trust that the person they love will be there to catch them.
