Jadine Stories

This is a poem written on 30th January 1992, just a day after the birth of my lovely daughter Jadine at the private Joseph Fraser Memorial Hospital in Colombo, Sri Lanka (her first-ever photo taken on that day is featured here). Just prior to and just afterwards, my wife Nahida and I had been staying in a nice rented apartment for 2 months over-looking the Indian Ocean just north of Colombo. The back story to all this, is that about five year earlier in 1987, at that same hospital, I had had removed all four of my wisdom teeth under general anaesthetic. The only reason for this procedure had been my spurious claim to be suffering from severe pain from impacted wisdom teeth with my Maldivian employers in order to facilitate a free medical flight to Sri Lanka. My real motive was to enable a clandestine rendezvous with my then girlfriend (and now wife) in Sri Lanka. Ironically, as it turns out, she was unable to make the trip in the end due to her work and finances, and so the extraction and all the post-operative pain proved totally in vain . Given my deceit, this was my just desserts (and one I still pay for to this day in my 60's - where four extra back teeth would have been very useful). The moral from the first part of this sorry tale is that quite rightly crime doesn't pay in the end. Second moral is that only fatherhood and family in the end focusses the mind away from preoccupations with yourself - towards something much more important.

This is the first of two short, linked poems, written at the time of my daughter Jadine's birth in Sri Lanka back in 1992. Just prior to and after Jay's birth there at Joseph Fraser Memorial Hospital, myself and my wife Nahida were staying in a nice rented apartment for 2 months over-looking the Indian Ocean just outside of Colombo, and supposedly sourced at 'local rates' through a close friend of our Maldivian brother-in-law. It later turned out after Jadine's birth that this so-called 'friend' had negotiated himself a recurring commission and 'finders fee' for his referral of us to our Sri Lankan landlord (the self-styled Jimmy Rockwood of the title), who then had to inflate our rent substantially to pass on the added cost (but without telling us this critical fact). Jimmy's flat had many trophy heads of wild boar from his various hunting exploits mounted on the walls. In addition were various bits of Christian iconography as well as prayer sheets from his local church congregation scattered around.

Bakit ba nagmamahal ang isang tao? At bakit kaya sa lahat ng pag-ibig may consequence ito? Bakit pa kaya tayo umaasa? Saan ba nag-umpisa ang pagiging sawi sa isang pag-ibig? Kay Jose Rizal? Kay Bonifacio? Marcos? Aquino? O Duterte? Wala e hindi ko alam. Sa istoryang ito may tatlong Babaeng maghahanap ng one true love si Legal Wife, si Mistress at si Daughter. Tatlong tao, tatlong istorya sa isang pangyayari at eto na bakit kami nagkakilala.

Life of Nadine Lustre and James Reid behind those camera

No, this has nothing to do with High School Musical... (Although I must admit I have a huge crush on Efron since I saw him come out of his Audi in 17 Again). Sorry, I'm babbling again. I'm just nervous. This is my first attempt in writing (no lie!). Well, you might have noticed in the tags, this story is a JaDine fanfic. Events, conversations, and some characters in this story are just products of my imagination. I got hooked with Jadine because of OTWOL last August 2015 and I found myself cancelling my late dinner appointments so I can watch the show. I became obessessed. Hahaha. For the first time, I made Twitter and Instagram accounts just to see the new OJDs and BTS pictures that were not in Otwolista.com. I'm one of those silent fans... Then I came upon a tweet about some short stories inspired by JaDine in wattpad. Since I can't get enough of JaDine, I tried reading some of the stories. Suddenly, I found myself checking wattpad everyday for new stories until I decided to write one... And, poof! Here we are... I hope you'll like my story! :)
