First book of the Acklams "A love hidden in memories..." Henry Acklam had long ago abandoned any thoughts of love. There were duties to fulfill-responsibilities to his family-and no room for weakness, no one with whom he could share his deepest feelings. At least, that was what he told himself. Yet, there was Noah, his best friend, whose heart ached for a loving marriage, someone to build a future with. Henry, ever loyal, would help him find the perfect wife, sacrificing his own discomfort to attend balls and events that never truly interested him. Anna Keighley, on the other hand, was in her fourth season, and the search for a husband wasn't a priority for her. Yet, unlike Henry, she did not shy away from the idea of love. Her open heart made Henry question his own convictions. She was the perfect match for Noah-beautiful, graceful, and kind-someone who could light up any room. Still, in the quiet depths of Henry's soul, something lingered, something he couldn't ignore. Love, he had come to believe, resided not in grand gestures, but in the unspoken glances shared between two people. When Anna Keighley looked at him, there was a spark, a quiet intensity, that spoke of a bond neither of them could deny.

She wanted the hero from her books. She got Francis Wynn instead. He is everything she knows better than to want: a rake without apology, a man who treats forever like a foreign language he has never had occasion to learn. He is also, maddeningly, the most interesting person in every room she enters, and he has noticed her in a way she is trying very hard not to notice back. Tiffany Winchester does not intend to become a chapter in someone else's story. Francis Wynn did not intend to fall in love. Neither of them is particularly good at doing what they intended.

My Mother always said, "Adaline we do not go off of what ifs and maybes." But I could not stop thinking about them. My mind would go off on random day dreams. Like what if the world decided to let by gone's be by gone's and all got along for the greater good. Or what if I met a gentleman and I loved him, living happily ever after. Those day dreams, they were not always ending in happy ever afters. My brain sometimes gets ahead of itself and does not stop. So I would sometimes think about sad things; what if I never get to see my family again? What if I never get to love a child that is mine? Maybe I will not find someone to love or love me. Maybe I would get forced into a marriage without passion and trust. I will not have it, I cannot. These tangents were not always sunshine and rainbows. That is why I would have to come back to reality. To realize that the only thing you can be sure of, is what actually is. The summer of 1878, I visited my Aunts Château de Haroué in Lorraine. Supposedly, I would be introduced to society; I had come of age. A ball would be had, a ball where one would find a husband. A contract of marriage. They called it a Debutante Ball. Or was it all a lie? Cover Photos: Pinterest

Say that the 'honest work' that St. John found for Jane Eyre, was as governess to the children of Maria Crawford. By which means, she would escape the fatal lure of Rochester: and be drawn instead into the orbit of Henry Crawford... The title comes from the Jane Eyre quote, 'I am no bird, and no net ensnares me'. All rights reserved to the author, no unauthorised reproduction allowed.

What if Catherine Morland was actually onto something? What if her Gothic novels had actually prepared her to encounter the atrocities of the real world? What if General Tilney's crimes were much worse than just being a snob and a heartless social climber? What if Northanger Abbey kept a terrible secret? Follow Catherine as she explores the Gothic Abbey and encounters witnesses, looking for clues. ************ This chaptered short story is a rewriting of Jane Austen's Northanger Abbey" I wrote while I was tutoring a highschool student and she had to write a detective story and she hated it and I proposed we do a "Catherine solves the mystery" rewrite and she was onboard and we ended up with her version and my version (this is my version). (I lost the end of my original text so I'll have to re-invent it...) Some of the dialogues are from Jane Austen's novel and/or Jon Jones's film adaptation but most of the text is a retelling (and departure from the original) in my own words.
