She came to England to make a good match. She found a body first. India, 1818. Miriam Linden is one and twenty, too tall, too loud, and too much for an English marriage market that has already decided she does not belong. Her only comforts are the letters she writes home to her cousin Clementine, and the memory of Charlie, the ship's deckhand she was never meant to love. Then, at a grand and slightly crumbling country estate full of charming suitors, a guest turns up missing, and everyone agrees it was nothing at all. Everyone except Miriam. Now she is the only one asking the questions no one wants answered, in a house thick with secrets, courtship, and at least one person who would very much like her to stop. Falling in love was never the plan. Neither was solving a murder. A Regency mystery told entirely in letters, for readers who like their romance with a body count.

The only daughter (and youngest child) of Lord and Lady Whittaker, twenty year old Gloriana reveled in her third season amongst high society London. With a marriage proposal all but verbally uttered, and very much anticipated by the ton, she had never been happier. But, sometimes, things are just too good to be true, and a vicious kick back to reality was in the cards for Miss Gloriana. Heart broken and bitter, she returns to her mother's side at their country estate, where her life takes a few rather unexpected turns. ~A regency era romance~ •Jane Austen/Charlotte Bronte inspired story• Edge= to excite, stimulate, or provoke If you're like me, you loved 'Pride and Prejudice', 'Sense and Sensibility', and 'Jane Eyre'. It's so easy to get lost in time while reading about life in the age where men were (mostly) gentleman, where lavish balls were frequent, and when there was a season in London where the gentry and well mannered people got together to gossip and form relationships. Also, if you're like me, all of those super inaccurate, pseudo regency period romance stories probably make you want to weep all over your Mr.Darcy body pillow. And that's not to say I don't read them, I still do, cause I'll take what I can get. I'm also not insinuating there aren't great, truly well written regency period stories on here either. I feel grateful to have found a few so far, and I really appreciate the authors who wrote them. But I couldn't help but try my hand at writing something I'd really enjoy reading. Something a bit more accurate than most. Still a little overdone, still has everything you want in a good regency era love story, but it shouldn't turn you into a Bertha Mason out of frustration. Any comments are appreciated! ♡JordynBH

The Summary In a world where every word is weighed for its worth, Leah Hanna has learned that silence is her only sanctuary. Told by a cruel mother that she is a "stuttering idiot" and a burden to her family, Leah retreats into the shadows of her estate, finding companionship only in her two loyal dogs and the wild, untamed beauty of the woods. She has resigned herself to a life of isolation, certain that no man could ever see past her hesitant speech to the woman beneath. Enter Tom Hayward, a brilliant but struggling junior barrister tasked with overseeing the family's legal affairs. Burdened by his own pride and a meager income of only £100 a year, Tom believes he has nothing to offer a woman of Leah's station. Yet, as they walk together through the emerald canopy of the forest, he hears the music in her stutter and sees the "rare sort of goodness" that the rest of the world has failed to notice. When a wealthy and arrogant suitor, Mr. Lake, threatens to claim Leah's hand, Tom must decide between his rigid sense of propriety and the fierce, protective love he feels for the girl who dances in the rain. A story of missed cues, simmering jealousy, and a harrowing storm on a limestone hill, "The Quiet Between Us" is a classic tale of two souls discovering that true worth isn't found in a bank ledger, but in the gentleness of a voice that finally promises: "I will always come back to you."

Aimée Isabeau Ainsbury has spent her entire life learning how to endure. The daughter of an English colonel and a French aristocrat, she has never belonged entirely to either of the two worlds that shaped her. With her family's reputation hanging by a thread, Aimée knows that her own future cannot be entirely hers. Her two younger brothers depend upon her judgment, and perhaps one day upon the fortune she is expected to secure through marriage. But Aimée has no intention of becoming anyone's wife. Then there is Benedict Valerian Pembroke, the newly inherited Marquess of Ashcombe. Once a carefree second son who spent his youth in the military and earned himself a reputation for women, gambling, and questionable company, Benedict has returned to Hampshire under very different circumstances. His elder brother is dead. The title is his. The estate is his. And with them comes a grief he has never learned to carry. Aimée has always believed that the greatest tragedy would be to lose herself for love. Benedict has learned that losing the people you love can be worse. And somewhere between resentment and desire, grief and forgiveness, duty and freedom, they will have to discover whether some loves are impossible, or merely out of reach.

Who is stealing muggle maidens from the countryside? Is it the work of dark wizards trying to bring back the infamous dark Lord Napoleon or a muggle-trafficking ring delivering to the seediest brothels? The Bennets are a premier wizarding family in Meryton of Hertfordshire, boasting the most beautiful daughters of the county. While the youngest daughter, Lydia, eagerly awaits her letter to arrive from Hogwarts, the neighboring estate is "let at last" by a young auror named Charles Bingley, who brings along his mentor and friend, the rich and enigmatic auror Fitzwilliam Darcy. Yet Darcy and Bingley aren't the only new arrivals to Meryton. An evil force has crept into the countryside and young muggle daughters are mysteriously disappearing. Who could be doing this? How can it be stopped? Wonders Elizabeth Bennet, second eldest and cleverest of the Bennet daughters. She dreams of being an auror but doubts men like Fitzwilliam Darcy will ever think her capable. Can she convince Darcy to work together to stop the kidnappings? What if they needed to get back one of their own? This is a mashup of the world's of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice and Rowlings' wizarding world. It takes place around 1811, so before a lot of HP cannon and I'm just making stuff up as I go. I am enjoying writing this and I thought there might be an audience who would enjoy reading it. Love, Nerdess

Katie Morland doesn't just believe ghosts exist - she's absolutely positive they're real. She hasn't read thousands of ghost stories or watched hundreds of episodes of Ghost Hunters and Ghost Adventures for them to be fake. She just has to PROVE it. When she meets the Tilney siblings and finds herself with the opportunity to set up her ghost hunting gig in a maybe-probably-possibly-definitely real life haunted house, Northanger Hall, she won't let anything stand in her way. Not love. Not family. And not even a possible murder. A modern retelling of Jane Austen's Northanger Abbey with ghosts, a Twitch channel, and a haunted house in New England. While we like to keep things light and relatively family friendly over here, this story is somewhat darker than First Impressions. Content Warnings for this story include: - Transphobia - Gaslighting - Emotional Abuse - Homophobia (moderate/implied) - Antisemitism and Antisemitic Tropes - Discussions of Body Dysmorphia and Gender Dysphoria - Discussions previous Parent Death - Discussions of a Terminal Illness

In this modern reimagining of "Pride and Prejudice", Elizabeth Bennet - a sharp‑witted data analyst and blogger - crosses paths with Fitzwilliam Darcy, the reserved CEO of Pemberley Tech. At first, they judge each other: she sees him as an aloof tycoon, he views the local community with detached skepticism. As a data leak crisis hits the company, Lizzy's thoughtful, compassionate writing helps calm the storm - and makes Darcy see her integrity and empathy. He begins to confront his own arrogance, rethink the company's ethics, and prioritize community over profit. They face pressure from Darcy's powerful aunt, Lady Catherine, who wants him to uphold family expectations and reject Lizzy. But Darcy chooses his own path: he reforms the business, stands up to his aunt, and admits his mistakes publicly. Eventually, Darcy and Lizzy acknowledge their feelings and build a relationship based on mutual respect and shared values. Jane and Bingley also grow closer, united by their desire to support education. A year later, Pemberley Tech launches its Community First Initiative, and Darcy and Lizzy stand together, realizing that real pride means standing for what matters, and real love grows from seeing and honoring each other's humanity.

A modern, LGBTQ+ retelling of Pride & Prejudice. When Lizzy Bennet left New York and moved to Hertford, a small town in Washington, she knew that everything was going to be different. There's this moment in the 2005 movie adaptation which makes me laugh because Mr. Darcy is so cold and aloof... and that's the moment where Elizabeth asks, "Do you dance, Mr. Darcy?" Presumably just making an effort to be friendly. And he says, "Not if I can help it." in a very matter-of-fact way. What makes it even funnier is that later, at the Netherfield Ball, he asks her to dance, and she is surprised and agrees despite the fact that she doesn't like him. The "Do you dance" scene directly precedes (in the movie) the scene where Darcy tells Bingley that Elizabeth is tolerable but not handsome enough to tempt him... so that is the moment which ingrains in the mind of the town that Mr. Darcy is a proud, disagreeable man. But, I wonder how it would have gone if he answered differently to her question...

Penelope Grace Moore was bordering on the obsessive of her love of Jane Austen's novels. Though it would be a dream come true for her life to resemble one of the prolific writer's novels, she never expected to be transported into one. Grace quickly learns that the cast of characters Jane wrote about so long ago are much more alive (and flawed) than she ever dreamed. She comes to find that the stories she has committed to memory are going all wrong. Mr. Darcy isn't going to be the gentleman that Lizzy comes to adore? Fanny Price falls for Henry Crawford? Anne won't be persuaded to love Frederick again? There are serious problems Penelope steels herself to solve. Will her meddling and match making get her home, and will she have her own happy ending when (and if) she gets back?

"It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife." At least, that's what my grandmother says. Then again, my grandmother's never been single in this century, much less in New York. She also thinks I'm an old maid. At twenty-six. But, I digress. I told myself I'd create a wattpad in the first place to try to get some of my work out there - but let's be real - it's not hard to guess why I'm here: to procrastinate and vent¯\_(ツ)_/¯ After all, I'm a third-year Columbia MFA student set to finally graduate next semester - if I can finish my thesis. My manuscript is a poetry collection, but I can't seem to come up with a working title. Or decide what to cut. Or settle on what I really mean to say in the first place. So, dear reader, why not join me? -Liz

Why has Darcy distanced himself from Elizabeth? She demands her husband confide in her...or risk the happiness of their union. The months following the birth of their first child should have been joyous, but something is wrong with Lizzy's marriage. Has his affection for her changed...has he taken a mistress? His coldness places Elizabeth in danger, the exact opposite of the outcome he desired. Darcy must rectify his mistake before his secret fear harms the lady he values above all others. Her Husband's Affection is the first passionate short story in the After the Wedding Series vignettes reimagining what may have happened with Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth at Pemberley after they married. These stories will not necessarily be told in chronological order or even feature the exact same Darcy & Elizabeth. Each short will include a tastefully written steamy sensual scene which enhances the exploration of marital intimacy between ODC. The author will make sweet versions available on her website. Variation #2 in this series will be Her Husband's Gift, a holiday novella of approx. 15K. If you crave tales depicting the passion, angst, and temper of ODC as they navigate tumultuous but loving marriage, you will enjoy the After the Wedding shorts.
