Ugggg!!!! My shoes! Where are my shoes!! I am 110% sure they didn't walk away! I frantically search for my shoes while attempting to brush my hair. "Riley, it's time to go!" My sister yells up the stairs. "I'm coming!" I yell back trying to throw my long wavy hair into a ponytail. I grab my backpack and head down the stairs. By the time I reach the bottom of the stair I can hear Jaden honking the horn. This is just the beginning of the average day of the life of living a "teenage dream." And by a "teenage dream" I mean the life of an average middle schooler.

In 2012 I was facing homelessness. I was 47 years old at the time, and I thought I was going to die, or be killed during my homeless stint in San Francisco. I had experienced a horrible loss before I became homeless, so I became hopeless, alone, disenfranchised, and scared. But I found solace, and comfort from beings that are hated, often killed and, or, hunted down and brutally slaughtered. I found peace in beings that recognized me as an equal. They say, people who go to the animals for help are usually the ones' who people cannot help. No human could help me the way the animals helped me.
