When Jacob picked up the phone, he chose his words more wisely. He didn't let Bella know who was on the other side of the phone. Edward never went to Italy to die, and Bella stayed in Forks. Bella has to come to terms with her love for Jacob while still navigating Edward's hold on her heart. Although Bella is battling with herself, the threat of a vengeful Victoria still looms over Forks. Bella never allowed herself to consider Jacob, not when immortality with Edward stood in the way. She knew her path, not the road less taken. She is cautiously going down a new path, one where the journey might be better than she expected.
