Musashi was the second Yamato-class ship to be built. It was constructed by the Earth's ministry of science and technology to carry out long term space exploration, at the same time the Aquarius and Laboratory Aquarius were also in construction. Eventually Musashi and Laboratory Aquarius met at the center of the Milky Way galaxy. In 2220, Musashi made an important report on the black hole at the center of the galaxy.
The Musashi never appears on screen in Space Battleship Yamato 2202, nor is it mentioned. However, Ginga's serial number "BBY-03" implies the existance of another Yamato-class vessel.[8] Musashi makes its only appearance in an official art piece for the Japanese blu-ray of 2202's fifth chapter.[4]
The Bandai 1/1000 Ginga model comes with an alternate nameplate for the bow, allowing builders to cast the ship as either BBY-03 Ginga or BBY-02 Musashi.[5]
Its history is told in an article on Scale Aviation magazine and in the Document Andromeda 2202 DX. Scale Aviation is an unofficial publication written by 2202's deputy director, Makoto Kobayashi, and the Document, while official, is specifically not meant to "describe the world of the story". This means that Musashi's story may or may not be considered canon.
