Random/disordered pieces. Generally written in a state of dreary haze of sorts. More lucid than brain fog yet with the oppression of hallucination. A wakeful dream; The sense of it, at the very moment it's written was clear, slips away when it's revisited later. It's rather useless by then. Passion never lasts. And I'm stuck romanticizing the ephemeral. <> Finding human writing/art/media apart from ai will become as pedantic as abstaining for organic produce from the conventional in a market. It all feeds the same anyhow. At some point, barely anyone would bother differentiating either. The consequences overall lies in rumor and superstition with a scientific flavor. Getting ahead of the curb by treating suggestions/hypothesis as mandates; could such gamble be afforded over and over? Doesn't gambling lead to a net loss on average? By the end of it, organic's the minority, as against automation, so will be humanity. Writing on itself as a form of sincere expression, like this, is a type of clownery. A doomed hobby, mutually outmoded as reading. Doomscrolling would've been a better use of time on my end. "Fast fashion" form of writing has always been the point for the mainstream. Writing's streamlined for a long while now. LLM-AI is that final step to maximize the output. Really, is it bad? Its a self-sufficient haven: Why complain over getting more of what one wants, like the want of reading? Quality in art is in the mercy of subjectivity. Not good enough? Want improvement?: Improvement is the expertise of ai. It's only natural. What can be done? I don't know: spiting a tsunami will not prevent it from coming and washing everything away that's good. And sometimes it takes even the bad amongst the wreck. I'm here; Luddite. Inept. I can only wait to be swept away or drown by it. Whichever comes first. [MLM] Moving to another state to start anew was Ryan's best bet in leaving behind memories of a messy situation. But when Cash Durand tumbles into the backseat of his taxi, suddenly, Ryan's got another messy situation on his hands―this one might be worth sticking around for, though. Maybe even worth both of them acknowledging their individual pasts clinging to their present selves. ****** At the fresh age of twenty-five, Ryan decides to move out of his small (and homely) two-bedroom flat, opting for a new start, away from messy memories and messy situations. What he'll soon find is a messier situation; starting with the one-room flat in a rural Indiana town he can't remember the name of, where his wake-up calls are the shouts from the town common across the road, because of course, the one place he found was smack in the middle of the busiest street. A cabbie as a job seems like a step up from his bartending days back in Illinois, and, well, it's not great compared to his exercise science bachelor's degree gathering dust, but he's still proving to the world that he's found something all on his own. Then, a day after he got the job, Ryan comes face to face with a twenty-something beaten up by life, who has a fire burning constantly in the palms he curls into fists, dark shadows under his eyes, and who acts like Ryan should know him―like there is more to them than this moment, than who they are right now. Maybe to him; but to Ryan, he's just the cabbie driving the annoying guy to the ice rink or random bars. That's all there should be to them. Until the cycle of familiarity becomes the string joining them together, and the past tangles with the present--even states away. No one can steer clear of messy situations forever. She sits at crowded tables, drinks countless glasses of wine, and convinces herself that he loves her. That's what this city is for, isn't it? Reinvention? ***** Sixteenth Street is only supposed to be a job for her to afford the bills in the new city she now calls home. What she doesn't expect is to fall head over heels for a man with enough experience - both in the restaurant and in life - to make her forget the real reason she moved to this new city in the first place. Intoxicated by the world of fine dining and men who taste like her new favorite poison, she finds herself lost and in waiting - for him, for the guests, and, most importantly, for herself. ***** OPEN NOVELLA CONTEST 2026 -- prompts 28 & 29

WATTYS WINNER 2020 Two interconnected murders, 64 years apart. One woman's search for truth and identity. Readers' comments: 'a masterpiece', 'impeccably written', 'amazing', 'superbly crafted page-turner', 'hauntingly beautiful', 'tremendous plot and character development', 'one of a kind', 'fantastic story telling', 'loved this book', 'a wonderful read", 'absolutely beautiful', 'brought tears to my eyes' and many more Wattys judging panel: 'This is VERY good. We were HOOKED from the beginning, and the writing and plot hold up throughout. This is a very unique, polished, well-written and well-researched piece.' Plot Set partly in rural England, partly on the sun-kissed coast of southerm Italy, The Painted Altar is a murder mystery mixed with romantic and historical elements (World War Two). Given away at two days old, Mary Rice has spent her life in the shadows. When discovering the suspicious circumstances surrounding her biological mother's death, she embarks on a journey which will shine a light not only on the truth but also on her own identity. Brief extract Suddenly, the door had inched open, half a wrinkled face visible behind the tautened chain. "Hello. Who is it?" The words I was going to say had of course been well-rehearsed, repeated over and over in my mind like a mantra, but now that the moment had arrived I found myself struggling to remember them. "Mrs Harvey... I think that you might... well, that you might be..." The door closed, then slowly opened once more, the chain this time unlatched. And there she was before me - half a metre away, within arm's reach. Thin lips gradually crooking upwards at each corner like the slow beatific kindling of a summer's dawn. "Oh yes love, I know who you are." Length: 70,000 words About the author: Originally from England but for the last 16 years I've been living in Italy. I hope therefore that the Italian aspects of the novel will have a certain gloss of authenticity.

baraan n. ( باران ) rain, soft and melodious. . 'Its indecisive. One minute, it lies on my shoulders, curved at the ends, and the next its dancing in the breeze, as I sat in the passenger seat of my friend's car. We were driving down an empty road at 10 PM and the windows were down. I could feel the cool wind on my face snatching the heat away from under my skin, and scattering it like breadcrumbs. He was laughing at something, and I was watching his smile from the corner of my eyes, only to turn my head and look at his hair holding hands with his eyelashes, and him singing along with the words being whispered by the car, drowning in the screams of the wind. "What do you think it'll be like? ...." ' . The story follows Gaitiara, a.k.a. Geekay, and her life after school and Alevels as she navigates life and goes through betrayal, loss, and something that she thought she would not experience until she was much older, something she avoided with her entire being - falling in love, or what seemed to be love, disguised as a feeling in her stomach, a feeling that she chased all her life, something she associated with her favourite books and music, and hugs from her closest friends - from the clouds and soft rains. little did she know, she would come across ghosts of that feeling in stolen glances and words, words that left her heart as confused as her mind, only to haunt her until she accepted and realised the reality of things, until she evolved into the person she wanted to become. until the storms around her, and inside her head calmed down to soft, beautiful rains, soft and slow like a dance and an embrace all rolled into one. . hightest rankings: #89 in Pakistan out of 41K #20 in Lahore . cover art by myself.

In the tranquil waters of Hawai'i, Hokulani and Nikau wonder if it's possible for a song to go on forever. ***** For as long as Hokulani can remember, she's always felt like she's treading water. Everything she loves becomes a means to escape from what's happening around her or, worse, the unsteadiness of her mind. She even finds her passion for music slipping through her grasp, though she tries her best not to completely let that go. And even though the arrival of an up-and-coming musician from Aotearoa causes waves, she's unable to fully enjoy her life. Unable to release that breath she feels like she's been holding onto ever since her father passed away. When her family is hit with complicated news, the Kahananui woman must make difficult decisions for themselves, including one Hokulani isn't sure she fully understands. But even when their choices are made, they bring up memories they've all been trying their best to forget, forcing them to face the reality deep inside the family's hearts. Hokulani takes refuge in the comfort her shared feelings with Nikau bring, but just because she wants something, doesn't mean it's enough. She knows she has a lot to work through on her own, and with the understanding that his year on the island will eventually come to an end, the two of them spend endless nights wondering if they can somehow make a song go on forever. ***** 2025 AMBYS GRAND FAVORITE | contemporary 2025 ASTANIA AWARDS FIRST PLACE WINNER | wild card » featured on @wattpad @romance @ContemporaryLit @SocialThemes and @Ambassadors « All rights reserved © Stephanie Midorii, smidorii

Trapped in a life of servitude to brutal English landlords, eighteen-year-old Patrick MacGormain dreamed of a different life, one where his choices were his own. Struggling after losing their father to consumption, he is gutted when their mother dies just a year later in a deliberate house fire, leaving Pat and his sister alone. With little to hold him, he traveled to Waterford, securing work as a cabin boy on the schooner Fanny, an overcrowded passenger hauler bound for Newfoundland. Early in the voyage, he befriends a dwarf of sharp wit and noble birth on a different path, the charismatic-but often underestimated-Edward Comerford. Amidst disease, starvation, and mutiny, they crossed a dangerous Atlantic, peppered with American raiders and Napoleon's frigates, on a vessel that would become one of the first "coffin ships." Hardly the bastion of democracy they envisioned, they seemed to have traded one land of persecution for another: the "New World" following the old. Based on true events. [Complete]
