~~ Finn's shoulders slumped, and he stepped back. "There's nothing I can do for you. I'm sorry."
"No, please!" Nymara cried, lifting herself over the edge of the tank. "Help me!"
Finn turned anyway.
Nymara lunged forward, catching his jaw before he could take too many steps. Her grip was firm, and she tugged in closer.
Finn jerked back, but the mermaid fought his resistance, pulling his face flush to hers...
...and she kissed him. ~~
In the early 1900's, a traveling circus chugs across America, but nothing about it is ordinary.
Underneath the circus tent lies golden lions that spew fire, horses with sparkling horns, and winged snakes that perfectly mimic any voice.
And the star of its magical show? A captured mermaid whose singing entrances all.
Stuck in a filthy tank and displayed like a prize, Nymara refuses to sing for the cruel men to further their greed. Even when their punishments include shocks and sharp blades that bruise her skin and dull her scales.
Then, there's Finn. A totally normal, ordinary, humanly human with absolutely ZERO secrets to hide.
Working for the circus to make ends meet, the short-tempered drifter knows too well the cruelty of men. For most of his life, he's followed one rule: stay OUT of human affairs. Nothing good comes from interfering.
Until Nymara threatens that.
Their escape is messy. Nymara cannot survive long on land, and the nearest ocean lies hundreds of miles away. To reach it, they must cross unfamiliar states, evade the men hunting them, and rely on a fragile power that allows Nymara to walk among humans.
From car chases, bar fights, and six-legged cougars, their reluctant partnership brings non-stop action that keeps both runaways on their toes.
The only goal: Make it to the ocean before Nymara becomes another prize for men... and try not to fall in love along the way.
