Arthur Pendragon begins to worry when his manservant, Merlin, stops showing up to work.

Merthur AU (Set around early season 4) Arthur Pendragon is the new king of Camelot having assumed the throne after his father's death at the hands of his sister, Morgana. One day while out on a hunt, a Druid appears, telling him of his destiny; a man named Emrys who resides in Ealdor. The Druid advises the king to seek out the man, for Arthur's destiny cannot begin without him, for he is Morgana's doom. Merlin is a young warlock living in the small farming village of Ealdor. His life is quiet. He spends his days toiling away at the fields with his best friend Will while honing his magical talents with the help of his mentor, Gaius, the physician from Camelot who visits on occasion. When he meets Arthur Pendragon, he can't help but hate the prat. Of course, until he gets to know him better. Meanwhile, Morgana scours the kingdom for the sorcerer Emrys. Desperate to find him before he finds her. When her search leads her towards Ealdor, she's surprised to find Arthur there, and with a scrawny peasant boy no less. As their paths cross in the usually uneventful village, it becomes a race between the son and daughter of Uther Pendragon to either save or destroy Emrys.

As Uther calls Arthur to speak with him privately, Arthur isn't sure what predicament had occurred between him and his father. Until he gets handed a crinkled letter. The kingdom of Aeyland had just collapsed at the hands of Morgana. The letter explains that several knights are on a quest to find their King and Queen. As Arthur embarks on this journey with several knights from both his kingdom and the fallen, Arthur realizes something extraordinary. The kingdom has a lost prince. After a brutal attack leaves Merlin dying. Arthur is desperate to save his man servant. He seeks the help of magic and is willing to pay whatever price. However it's not what Arthur expects. This leads to the Prince and manservant to start their true destiny to unite Albion and bring magic back to their kingdom. That's if they can survive.

Uther would always set up Arthur with princesses but every single time, Arthur would make up excuses to why he doesn't want to be with them. Uther then decides that he will set him up with a prince to see if he will still make excuses. Arthur was still mad when his father told him this but when he met the prince, Merlin, he said that he will give it a go. Merlin also didn't know how he felt about this considering that Camelot didn't accept magic in their kingdom. Uther was desperate to get Arthur either a prince or princess to rule with him when he dies. So, he lifts the ban on magic since he knows that Merlin isn't evil and that his kingdom is extremely strong. What will happen when they are forced to spend most of their time together and actually bond?

I got the inspiration for this story from a similar oneshot on Fanfiction.net by Aeon The Dimensional Girl if the user wishes for me to take this one down I will, however I will point out that I expanded on the concept and definitely made it my own. Originally gonna be a one shot, but ended up being too long for a one shot. Merlin returns to Camelot after Arthur dies and gets banished by Gwen. He goes to sit by the lake of Avalon to wait for Arthur. Eventually Arthur returns. Merlin is not immortal in this version, however he is still extremely powerful. This is about their life together. Warnings: malexmale relationship, some language might be considered crude, mentions of m-preg. Mentions of thoughts of suicide.

{Modern day Merlin AU, Merthur} The dragon promised Arthur's return, but Merlin never expected it to be like this. After spending 2000 years holding onto that promise, the very least Merlin could have hoped for was a glimpse of his King on the streets- what he got , however, was so much more. He has a chance to do it all again in a modern world where his love is no longer illegal, and where he and Arthur are not seperated by class or status. However, nothing has ever been so simple for him: not only has Arthur returned, but so have Morgana, Uther and the knights of the Round Table, not to mention a few enemies who would have been better dead and the fact that none of them know who they once were or who Merlin is. Faced with the dangers of repeating his mistakes, Merlin embarks on a journey to find peace and fulfill the destiny he had assumed complete.

We pick up right at the last episode of the show however I made a few changes...This work is my own with the addition of a completely new story line that just continues that heart-felt and silly world from the show that we all love. This story is about love and the struggles that we must overcome in the name of it. A lot of Merthur, but I keep it pretty pg-13 so don't expect a lot of smut. Starting at the beginning of Season 4, Lancelot and Merlin manage to close the rift without a sacrifice. With Arthur curious about magic, Merlin finds himself revealing his talents to the most trusted of the knights and to the prince. Together they decide that they will bring magic back to Camelot when Arthur becomes king. Also, a funny Merlin meme in every chapter. For no reason, just cause I liked them. And I don't own Merlin, obviously. Just the story.

Five years had passed since Arthur had become King, and three since the magic ban had been repealed. Merlin had left Camelot soon after, convinced that his work here was done and he wasn't needed anymore, to live a life of solitude and mystery as Emrys. But when a ball is held at Camelot to celebrate the first steps to the forming of Albion, an invitation finds its way to Emrys, and with it, a way for Merlin to find closure. Would he leave everything be as he left it three years ago, or would he take the chance to move on with his life?
