After his death, Meredith receives all of Derek's belongings from his mother, Carolyn Shepherd. Amongst his things, she finds a box filled with journals. His mother explains that he started writing in them when he was a first year resident as coping mechanism, as well as to let his kids discover who he was and what his life was like in his younger days. She also adds that he lost his medical school files and his first-year resident journal was given to Addison. Throughout this fanfic, you will be reading through Derek's journals, starting with him being a second year all the way to his last entry before his death. Hope you enjoy!
