Kane Li, an outspoken and lively eighth grader, is used to being the center of energy among her friends. Confident and quick-witted, she navigates school life with ease-except when it comes to Jaryl, the playful and equally sociable seventh grader who unknowingly occupies a space in her heart.
Despite being naturally outgoing, Kane keeps her feelings for Jaryl hidden, brushing off their frequent teasing and playful banter as nothing more than friendly fun. Jaryl, always mischievous, enjoys getting a reaction out of her, whether by bonking her on the head or teasing her about Aljon, her former crush. Their dynamic is one that draws attention, with many of their peers speculating about them, though Jaryl himself remains oblivious.
As the school year unfolds, Kane finds herself caught between maintaining her usual carefree attitude and dealing with emotions that refuse to stay buried. Through moments of laughter, banter, and stolen glances, she realizes that hiding her feelings might not be as easy as she thought. Surrounded by a close-knit group of friends, each with their own quirks and relationships, Kane learns that sometimes, even the most social and confident people struggle when it comes to matters of the heart.
How do you keep your feelings hidden when the person you're trying to avoid looking at is always right in front of you?
