I tried to control my breathing, so that the knife wouldn’t be dug further into my skin by the frantic movement of air into and out of my lungs. I looked up towards him. His eyes didn’t look angry; they looked sad. But my stomach churned at the determination behind the solemnity I saw there. The gray was unmistakably cold-hearted. He was distancing himself from the kill. Allowing himself to become indifferent. My lips parted to speak. “Please, don’t kill me.” Tears began forming at the corners of my eyes... My name is Jezebel, and I have thanatophobia.

In the early 19th Century, Prague’s streets are cold and cobbled. The astronomical clock chimes on the hour and life goes by as it should. Puppet theatres have always been a big part of the Czech culture and Anna and her uncle rely on them for a living. Anna has always made puppets, always been to see the shows and always had them in her life. It’s just the way it always has been. But what happens when the curtains go down and at night the puppets dance on the stage, when people are being murdered, when a ghost and mysterious magician appear?

Adelay's in danger. It seems her life is nothing but running, hiding, being caught, and repeating the whole process over. What could be any different when her brothers, mother, and she moves to the tiny Native American reservation just outside the city of Forks, Washington? If only she knew what fate had in store for her when she made eye-contact with a certain boy, and how her life would shortly be spiraling out of control. Now she has to fight to keep her new life, and everyone in it, safe from her troubled past. Can she do it? Or will she be caught in the whirlwind along the way? Daphne can't take her parents any longer. Fed up with the constant fighting, she moves in with her cousins and aunt, the Clearwaters. Her whole life she hasn't been able to fit in-and now being surronded by thought-to-be mythical werewolves an their imprints-she finds that nothing has changed. All she wants is to be loved, to be wanted. Is that too much to ask? Fearful to be left behind by all the others, all her happy in Love friends, she doesn't know what her future holds in store for her. As everyone around her realizes what will become of them, she realizes her biggest terror of all: What if she is never loved?
