She knows there is something unique about her friend and his people and yet she asks no questions. She has trust in him and for her that's enough. Jacira is an average Brazilian of multiethnic origin, however, still she is almost completely unaware of a part of her history, the family of her father, who despite having clear Amerindian origins, is not seen as such, due to the association that society as a whole has maintained for many decades. The book presents routine excerpts from the lives of three generations: a grandmother abducted from her village to marry a settler, her father, who despite being born in the interior, overcame the poverty in which she was inserted in "civilized" society and in the city achieved a better quality of life, also for his daughter, Jacira, the third generation described, who names the work. Jacira was the result of a bleaching process, and so she finds herself more easily inserted in this community than her father, who always noticed the discrete difference of how they treated him for his brown skin or his grandmother, who died unhappily and deprived of exercise their true culture.

In New Casca, the largest city in the Last Nations, the People live beside their new siblings in a hodgepodge of ancient tradition and new infrastructure. Highhouses of wood and leather dot the landscape alongside buildings of steel and stone. Ink combustion engines power automobiles and the machinery of factories; ink batteries light the lamps of the stone-paved streets. The high-fashion, high-class artisan district clashes with the nearby slum reservations. At night the streets empty, patrolled by the constabulary who protect the people from scoundrels and gangrels and things that prowl. Or they try to. Past the quarantine zone -- where carriers are stacked in droves, forced to live in second-class poverty and squalor, forced to scrabble just to get by -- guarded and watched by the same towers that guard and watch the carriers is Inkblood Inc. When a carrier dies, when a scoundrel is found, city hall calls on the inkbloods to do what they do best, what only they can.

I wrote this science fiction story at Clarion West, a workshop for science fiction and fantasy authors. Ellen Datlow was our instructor that week and it was the first time I managed to write a real short story, not a novel fragment. It took me years to do it again after that! Since then, this story has been published professionally and translated into German and Spanish.

Based off the movie Spirit: Stallion of The Cimarron. Humanized Spirit embarks on a journey to save his family, His wife Rain and daughter Tear( like teardrop not the action phrase) from white colonials and a strange ancient "actual" spirit angered by the humans trespassing on its lands. This story is probably going to be rough since I need to do some research about native Americans before delving in their history. So cut me some slack. I guess the creature/spirit thingy can be a windigo or something. I brainstorm most of my stories.

Renae sees it as an opportunity to build a lasting name for herself in a male dominant field. Accepting the job Renae finds herself at Mesa Verde National Park. There she meets a rather odd crew of scientists, and a detective who makes her question the motives of the EIA, and her feelings. "I believe you might be the one to figure it out." The woman put her hand on her chin in thought. "I understand your skepticism, you wonder how any of this will work after it's done." She paused, almost like it was meant for dramatic effect, "I understand, but leave that for my team and I to figure it out." Why didn't she want her to know the details, had they not figured them out for themselves? Or was there more to this then she was letting on. "Shouldn't I get a say In what happens to them once I'm done?" Dottie's face turned hard, "You'll get the honor to publish the work, and your name will be stamped everywhere in the institute."
