Never Forgotten

This short story depicts the life of a Jewish orphan who is transferred from a ghetto to the Auschwitz concentration camp during WWII.

At school and even at home around friends and family, I am okay. But they don't know that sometimes at night I lay awake crying, memory's flooding my head, never to be forgotten.

December 16, 2009 my school lost a very amazing young man. No one knew he was depressed at all. He always used to be full of smiles and laughter. He was one of the best people you would ever meet. Without a second thought, she stepped forward, pulling his coat gently in the process. She knew he was hurt somewhere, but he refused to say it. "I'm sorry." She whispered for both of them to hear. "If you're really sorry, tell me your name." His voice matched hers. She lifted her head, bravely making eye contact with a stranger she just met, a stranger whom she hurts. "Hana. Park Hana." She bit the edge of her lips, realization hits her. Why did she give her name to someone she never knew existed. "Park...Hana... My favourite." He loved the name. My favourite, he repeatedly says the name in his mind not wanting to forget it. His breathy voice made her heart skips a beat. He sits on my bed like he belongs there. Like this is normal. Like I am not slowly coming apart. He does not need to touch me. He does not need to raise his voice.
