For a second I could have sworn something flickered behind the coldness in his eyes, some small trace of who he used to be, before his expression flattened and his words cut ribbons through me.
"I'm not the one who has to fix anything Anthony. I wish you could know the things I do now. If you did, then maybe-" He stopped, shaking his head at whatever it was he had been about to say.
"Nik-"
"Waven. It's The Waven now." His cold eyes bore through my head as his words sunk like a weight in my chest. He left then, those awful words the last I heard before the pain began. He left, left me to suffer and bleed, but it didn't matter, couldn't.
I had seen him, seen the real Nik for just a second, and I knew, that no matter how determined he was to sacrifice himself and destroy everything around him, I wasn't going to let that happen. I was gonna get him back.
He was gonna come back to me.
