And you do not consent to that. Beatrice hasn't lived much, so she's not incredibly intent on dying. When Death begins following her and encouraging her to "accept her promotion," Beatrice does the only thing she really can do. Keep living. And when Death makes her agree to go with him after accomplishing one fulfilling date, Beatrice finds herself actively not doing that. And maybe living a little harder.
