Tillie Dunn is only twenty-one, but working in Manhattan SVU has already taught her that some cases follow you home.
After a particularly brutal investigation leaves her emotionally exhausted, Tillie returns to her apartment expecting to find her mother, Irene, waiting for her. Instead, she discovers Irene brutally murdered, and soon learns that the person responsible is someone she never imagined she would have to fear: her own father, Patrick Dunn.
As Olivia Benson, Elliot Stabler, Fin Tutuola, Amanda Rollins, Casey Novak, and Alex Cabot investigate Irene's murder, they are forced to watch one of their own slowly unravel. Tillie is determined to keep working, convinced that solving the case will somehow make sense of what happened. But grief, guilt, anger, and trauma begin consuming her.
When Tillie finally reaches breaking point and disappears from work, the squad realizes just how serious her struggle has become. Finding her is only the beginning. With Olivia refusing to let her face the darkness alone, Tillie must confront the painful truth that she couldn't save her mother, and that surviving doesn't mean leaving Irene behind.
Set against the tense investigations, courtroom battles, and close-knit dynamics of Law & Order: SVU, What Remains is a story about murder, betrayal, grief, friendship, and the fragile process of learning how to live after everything you knew has been taken away.
Sometimes solving the case isn't the hardest part. Sometimes the hardest part is finding a reason to stay.
