Amelia Holte banishes ghosts for a living... and she's good at it. But when she's hired to investigate a haunting at an orphanage, she begins to realize that some ghosts are not so easily cast aside. The dead always return to us, one way or another. With a powerful ghostly threat growing stronger, the only way to protect the children may be for Amelia to relive her own childhood memories and come face to face with the thing that haunts her the most.

[ONC 2021 Grand Winner] After the events of Ragnarök, the God Vidar has settled in the nice and quiet city of Antwerp where he keeps an eye on the local paranormal community. Nearly a millennium later, Vidar is a grumbling bookstore owner by day and a lazy paranormal detective by night (albeit a slightly furry one during a full moon). The morning after a particularly rough transition, the young teenage girl who normally wastes her days on the skatepark across the street enters his shop, fervently looking for a book on the legend of Brabo and Antigonus. As she struggles to pay, she reveals that the bronze giant has disappeared from the statue on the town square. At the foot of the fountain now lies a body that has been dead for three hundred years. Prompts chosen: (25) The war has ended, and thus the immortals return to their natural state: forgotten, hiding in the shadows until humankind is in need of them once more. They did not expect to be stumbled upon by a young farm apprentice. (*) (60) Rumours of a mysterious dark force under the earth have spread around the city. You are sent to investigate. (*) To fit the plot I have in mind, the young farm apprentice will become a bookstore "apprentice"

Harper Holland has started a Twitter account called All Things Breakfast. After several months of dedicated, daily posting, she is proud to say her account has forty-three whole followers, not counting her best friend Olivia. On one completely unremarkable morning, after she crafts an exceptionally beautiful post, she forgets to change from her hole-filled sweat pants into her jeans. But that's not going to ruin her day, right? Except it does, because crashing into a door and thoroughly embarrassing herself wouldn't be complete without an awkward encounter with the most beautiful man she had ever laid eyes on. If she'd known she was going to meet him, she would have been extra sure she was wearing nicer pants. And if she'd known all the trouble that morning tweet would cause, she probably wouldn't have posted that either. I mean, no one wants to start a coup with their breakfast tweets, right? But she did forget to change, and she did post the tweet, so now she has to accept her consequences. The only problem is those consequences keep getting weirder and weirder. Sometimes, being internet famous isn't all it's cracked up to be. *** This novella was written as part of the open novella contest 2021 for prompt number 40.

[COMPLETE ON PATREON] The not-so-small town of Love Lake is having a devil of a year. The lake itself is running drought-dry, hailstorms keep taking issue with good folks' shingles, and disease runs its fingers through the surrounding croplands. Even the night stars look melted in the heat. Many wallets are tight, and summer celebrations promise to be a subdued affair. Most students at Love Lake High are bored half to tears in their final weeks of class, watching their erasers melt on the windowsills and taking bets on which room of the school gets hot enough to burn paper. So when Jean Williams is first to spot a shadow at the bottom of the lake, it's no wonder the news spreads fast. Over the coming days, all eyes are on the water as it pulls back from an honest-to-god building. On the lakebed. Still standing, like the fish maintain it or something. Entertainment's hard to come by when it's too hot out to play ball, so the moment school is out, the popular kids are the first to propose exploring Love Lake's own mysterious ruin. Dante Moore is part of the team, though he wonders if he's most useful as bait. This is both a giftfic for a good friend of mine, KelseyAlicia who encouraged me to go the route of Lu Ten/Ursa in my To Lose or to Gain series, but also an ONC project. While parts of this story arc are AU to where I intend on taking the To Lose or to Gain series others are not. That was until Nova Martinez, an undergrad at Stanford, laid her eyes upon it. However, having solved the world's most difficult problem was the last thing on her mind. After having gone through a traumatic experience, she now questions whether she has been living the way she wants or the way others have told her to. Will the answer to the Hartman Equation give her new meaning in life or will it be the catalyst to finding what it truly means to live?

ONC2021 entry. With all her memories since she turned eighteen gone, Joanna Collins has no idea who she is. Life becomes even more complicated when a mysterious text message arrives on her phone. Why is someone calling her Agent 23? And what is it supposed to mean that she has been "activated"? Add in the handsome man who won't stop following her around, convinced that she is Agent 23, and Joanna becomes more determined to discover what exactly it is that she has forgotten. But why is her "partner" telling her she chose it? And how are they supposed to survive their mission if she can't remember what they are supposed to be doing? This is not going to be fun. Prompt: You get a mysterious message on your phone stating 'Agent 23, you have been activated'. You guess it is a bad time to have amnesia.

It hadn't occurred to Esme that she should be suspicious of her parents, they were just ordinary people after all. But when an unknown number won't stop texting her, the questions start coming. Was the accident really the cause of her amnesia? Why did her parents speak five languages suddenly? How was it that Esme could suddenly assemble and disassemble guns? Who exactly was Agent 23? Maybe one of these days she could get back to her sappy daydreams of her incredible coworker. That itself seemed like a dream.

Past the threshold, there is nothing solid beneath your feet. You plummet into the oblivion below, clutching wildly at the emptiness around you. There is no sensation but the terror of freefall in the pit of your stomach and the freezing rush of air against your skin. Impenetrable darkness presses on your eyes. You fear that it will swallow you. You take solace in the fact that there is still air to breathe, even though every gasp seems to turn your lungs to ice. Distantly, you recall that hell is supposed to be firey and painful. In your desperation, you accept this comfort that you must be headed elsewhere. Without warning, your feet connect with something solid, and the impact shudders through your bones, leaving an agonizing ache in your knees as you collapse in a heap. You roll over, eyes meeting the sky. It's hazy and more grey than blue, but its wispy clouds provide the same relief as spotting a familiar face in a crowd of strangers.
