He's been transported into a topsy-turvy alternate universe (not a good thing when your mom's expecting you home for dinner), he's recently acquired wooden extremities and is physically incapable of telling a lie (an even worse thing when you pride yourself on not sharing your emotions), and his little sister has been kidnapped, mistaken for the lost princess of the Land of Pittsborough (the worst thing of all because...please refer back to the part about Mom making dinner). In order to save his sister and find a way home, Leo will have to confront an evil queen who lives in an office cubicle, a few mice with horrible fashion sense, and a girl with green skin and webbed toes (but hey, at least she's kind of cute). And he'll have to do it all before the clock strikes midnight or risk being trapped in Pittsborough forever. Now if only he could figure out how to walk on his wooden feet... --------------------------- This short story is a modern day fairytale mashup, partially inspired by Pinocchio, The Frog Prince, and many others. In today's world, Cupid was not shooting arrows at humans anymore, he now had "love powder". Deep down wanted a love of his own. This story was an entry in Target's OnceUpon Contest, because of this, and a 10,000 word limit all together, it is a lot faster than most stories. He's dealt with worse before, but this time around, he meets someone different. Maddy prefers to go by Meddy because her idol is none other than the gorgon Medusa herself. She's in the hospital because of a fatal accident that marred her body and a terminal illness that's slowly counting down her days. Face filled with scars and completely blind, the last thing Meddy ever expected was to become friends with someone as charming and lucky as Midas. But like the days of old, some things were never meant to be. As a King with a tragic touch and a creature that strikes the worst fear in others, happiness is not a term they're both familiar with. Frozen in stone and frozen in gold, fate would grant neither of them victory.
