Merida always thought of herself as someone who didn't do romance. She looked at all those boys she was supposed to marry and wondered how her mother managed to live all these years in an arranged marriage. She saw betrothal as a prison, and she wanted to be free forever. Until that day in the forest, riding Angus and shooting arrows at the trees, when she almost ran over a blonde peasant girl, and they unexpectedly spent the afternoon together. Then she realise how alone she actually felt, and how she wasn't so immune to romantic love as she thought she was. IMPORTANT: I made a lot of research on the Scots language and Scottish accents to write this fanfic. At the time Brave is set in, the Highlanders spoke Gaelic, so the fanfic is not totally historically accurate because I based it on medieval Lowlands English. If there's anything wrong or I messed up some terms and expressions, I'm sorry in advance. English is not even my first language, I just felt like the story would be more immersive if Merida had an authentic accent.
