I, Rosie Garrett, am logical. I like even numbers, terminating decimals, and completed homework. I also love observing and was once a reporter for my school’s gossipy paper, which everyone calls The Mill. During my stint there, I wrote enough columns to make any editor’s head spin with facts.
I, Rosie Garrett, once wrote about people who I deemed illogical. I’ve written about stuff that high school juniors aren’t supposed to write about. I’ve written about teachers, students, people who I thought weren’t right. Exposes, if you wish. I’m very, very used to people getting mad at me.
But only one person stands out.
His name was Aaron Saint. He was the last boy caught in a drug ring that spanned five high schools and two middle schools. Seven schools all in all. At the time, it created a huge media buzz that only died down a few weeks before summer vacation.
I knew he hated me. I didn’t care. It was the best thing that could happen to a young writer like me.
Fast forward a year and I, Rosie Garrett, am a born again Christian. I know, I know - it’s a leap. Sleaze gets to you if you’re around it enough, and I was getting sick of it. I knew it wasn’t right. I called myself Christian, but all I did was take advantage of God and his love.
When my personality changed, people took notice. I stepped down from the staff of The Mill when I realized that I just couldn’t do what I had done before anymore. But even though I'd changed, the people I'd written about were still out there and hurting.
I, Rosie Garrett, am currently a tutor at my school. And the last boy - he's my new student.
