Than-Actuality
After living on the streets thieving and scrounging for survival, Roan's moral compass is far gone. One infraction away from a death sentence, he decides to participate in someone else's prison break. That is, only at the prospect of copious wealth. When a woman deep inside the prison's winding tunnels interrupts the breakout, he learns there's more to life than the incessant search for food and shelter.
The woman comes from The Order of Magic, an organization of thousands of mages, and according to her, Roan is one of them. At The Order, Roan learns the world is balancing on the edge of destruction. A pestilence, Dedwitct, deemed the "Immortal Plague," has infested the land and created grand-scale annihilation. When in its most severe form, Dedwitct fuses the bodies of hosts, transforming them into grotesque abominations.
On the verge of a discovery, the leaders of The Order of Magic send out various parties to gather items for the cure. With underdeveloped abilities, Roan reluctantly joins the quest alongside a crew consisting of a happy-go-lucky prince, a stoic half-giant, the son of an assassin, and a meek scholar. After battle grim monsters, travelling through shape-shifting forests, and coming into close contact with infected atrocities, they face a villain they never expected.
Fortunate for Roan, when Dedwitct begins to infest the mages of The Order of Magic, moral compasses don't matter.
