One day, Elijah Russo visits an orphanage in London. It's a typical visit, but as he looks around, his eyes land on a girl who doesn't really stand out among the others. Still, to him, she feels different, and he can't shake the feeling that she'll always be someone special. Narcissa has always seen the orphanage as her home. It wasn't the ideal place, but she didn't know what it was like to have a real family, so the orphanage was all she knew. It wasn't perfect, but it was hers-at least in her mind. When Elijah walks through the doors, something about him triggers memories of six boys she used to know. Those memories bring back old feelings-of friendship, loss, and a time she'd long since tried to forget.
