There comes a time in our lives, that which we feel like we could make a difference in something in what we do. A small thing it often is, but it has its own impacts. A single decision can be enough to change the world for years to come, like the rippling waves of the ocean. But what would people decide on if it meant their very future was at the brink of damnation? My first entry for National Geographic's #PlanetOrPlastic writing contest

What would happen if gods Earth, Sea, Moon, Sun and others would give a creature the power to create?

Small things make big differences. Even a little seahorse can help make the Earth a better place, so why can't we? #PlanetOrPlastic

We are one of the first generations to know we are killing our planet. We may also be one of the last able to save it. Knowledge is power - what are you willing to do with yours? ~*~ Welcome! Here's a book of short stories inspired by the National Geographic competition #PlanetorPlastic I will be writing multiple entries as inspiration strikes throughout. Each chapter is a new and independent story (and competition entry) that can be read as a stand alone. This will be an ongoing series in honour of my personal milestone of starting my Tropical Marine Biology masters! Guess who is doing (micro)plastics for her dissertation? That's right - me! So this comp ties in beautifully with what I want to help achieve - awareness and knowledge. Following my passions has taken a huge leap of faith for me and a lot of dedication. I hope some of these stories inspire, evoke and induce something in each and every one of you too, the way the reality does for me. A lot of these stories will be metaphors and require reading between the line to decipher the theme or meaning. So please feel free to comment if it's unclear or a bit confusing (I tend to forget my readers aren't taking up residence in my mind and need me to write appropriately in order to deliver what I want, haha, it's a continuous learning curve for me!) My name is Leah Minnaar, I am 14 years of age and my dream is to study Marine Biology. I have taken part in this writing contest because this movement means so much to me, my entry is very deep and can be seen from a divers perspective or a sea creature. #PlanetOrPlastic #NatGeo

It happens whenever, we, the humans get in the war with the Mermaids? Will it make us change the way we view pollution of plastic in both of our oceans? Or will we ruin the ocean even more? Well.. shall we find out? (if enough people read this story I might continue it after the contest)

This is my small contribution to NGC's big #Planetorplastic movement! I still remember the day when I swam in the ocean and got swept away...

A short story for #PlanetorPlastic. The ocean for me is intimate nostalgia, and embodied forgiveness. I wanted to write about the threads between generations, and the relationship between a father and daughter experiencing different childhoods in what are effectively different worlds, with the amount of change on the planet today.

Every ocean is polluted by plastics surrounding us And that's because of us I grew up in a world of nothing but buildings scattered in a city. I once saw the essence of water, it was fascinating. How the water shines once the light hit it's clear sight. How its cold waves encountered my feet and my skin, it was stunning. I never thought it would change, never have I thought it would. ********* this is a short story of saving the ocean with this story
