The System arrived belatedly, informing Shi Hanli that due to a programming error, she hadn't become the naive and sweet female supporting character she was supposed to be. Instead, her original self had transmigrated, meaning she didn't need to follow the plot. However, the System's built-in Evolution System still belonged to her. From now on, her sole mission was to "survive." As Shi Hanli gazed at the zombie-infested world, her eyes gleamed with the predatory hunger of a wolf spotting a flock of sheep. As time passed, everyone in this world seemed to have developed some kind of mistaken perception. One of the male lead's subordinates knelt on one knee, his eyes filled with reverence. "Big Brother Shi, your will is the direction my sword points. I will follow you for life." The male lead's confidante blushed shyly. "If it's you, I won't oppose you." The male lead himself was utterly awestruck. "Brother Shi! Dad!" When others in the apocalypse mentioned Shi Hanli's name, they would say, "Lord Shi? The world is dead, and we killed it. They try to survive as the Nihiline, that eldritch abyss created by the universe's Heat Death, that in a few years will consume what remains of reality, stares into people's souls and makes them go insane; so don't look up for too long. And they try to survive when people like Yaouei cause trouble for everyone. The world is ending, so in her mind there are no rules, and even though technically she's been hired by the local Questants Guild as an adventurer, she's more inclined to do things her way even if people complain. It's not like it's gonna matter in the end, after all. Time's up. We blew it up. Nothing matters. Or does it? Maybe there's more to Yaouei than she wants to admit. There have been strange occurrences and rumors ever since she drifted into Allewood Village. It's been four hundred of years since The Rot ravaged the world and sent people downward with its decaying touch, four hundred years since humanity has inhaled even a breath of fresh air and twenty years since the first fifth-generation child was born in the shelters deep underground. And now, beneath the poisoned earth at the edge of the world, only six of them remain living in the last surviving shelter, the last surviving Lifelight illuminating a darkened board. For the rest were claimed by The Rot. Protected at all costs, older generations shields the worst of the consequences, the worst of the panic, but truth cannot be hidden forever.
