This is a collection of 11 poems depicting the black experience in America . We are the only ones who can tell our stories & I'm going to tell our truth .

Rebecca and Jasper were normal siblings. They fought; they laughed; they grew up together. But the world the grew up in was ending as they knew it. The heat was rising, and a last ditch effort to preserve young people into the future by means of freezing them in capsules until the earths natural cycles are able to recover from the damage. Only the fittest would be selected. However, Jasper must hide his sexuality to be considered reproductively fit, and Rebecca's history of depression puts her at risk of rejection. And if they pass the trials, would they survive to build a new world.

When 17-year old Nina Johnson meets the new neighbors she'd never imagine that one of them would take her on the adventure of her life time. Being a stubborn teen in the 90's, she doesn't understand that other people who don't look like her have the same problems. Though, that is about to change when the new neighbor, William, takes her around the country, tells her life stories and possibly open her eyes and mind. Growing up in South Gate, you know when to keep your head held low. You know who and what you're supposed to talk about. You know what is completely off the table. After finding her brother shot dead in the park Kaiyana has always felt a guilt knowing she was the last person in her family to see him alive, knowing that her last words to him were far from "I love you." These past three years without him have weighted heavy on her, she's the same age as her brother when he died. This is an attempt at a contemporary, UK based adaptation of Nina Simone's Four Women and a comment upon privilege and marginalisation. The story follows four British women of colour, four non white women across seven weeks that will prove to be fairly pivotal in their journeys of self discovery and ultimately a lesson in how we are so much easier to rule when we are divided.
