Serena bit her lip, tears threatening to fall. "I'm sorry, Ash. But I need someone who's already strong... someone who can protect me, who can actually stand at the top. You're still just... dreaming." Her words echoed like poison in his ears. Ash turned away, his eyes burning, but no tears fell. Not yet.
