My name is Athena, and I have a home by the sea. I'm a diver. Mostly as a hobby, in a way. I'm chasing a creature; a monster so terrifying it haunts my every dream. I've been following its trail, but it always eludes me. It always returns to the vast arms of the sea, leaving nothing but destruction in its wake. Somehow, it escapes me. Not this time. This time, I know I'll find it. This time, it's coming to me. =============================================== This is a short story for the #PlanetorPlastic writing contest hosted by National Geographic! I hope you enjoy!

Paradigm Thrift: A Qualitative Study Exploring the Political Impact and Liberatory Potential of College Free Thrift Stores Hello, thrifters. This is my research from college about the political potential of free thrift stores at universities across the US. I created a free thrift store while I was in college and am now starting to freelance and create more stores at other colleges (hmu if you're interested for more information). I think this information is super fascinating and there is NO literature on free thrift stores (let alone their political impact). If you know of any such literature that I might not have found yet- please send it my way. I'm unsure how to post this with the footnotes but all of the works cited are included at the end. If you have any questions or just want to connect with me about your excitement on this topic, I would be thrilled to chat. What is a free thrift store? A free thrift store is a community-driven initiative where items such as clothing, books, household goods, and school supplies are donated and made available to others at no cost. Unlike traditional thrift stores, which sell items at low prices, a free thrift store operates on the principle of mutual support and sharing, with no monetary exchange involved. This initiative is very successful at small walkable colleges.

A simple plea to the barracudas of the corporate world: do something. Do something before we find out exactly how much the Earth can take. Do something today, so that your grandchildren aren't left to piece together the world you polluted. It's not impossible to be eco-friendly, and the planet's well-being is worth paying a little extra. Corona recently introduced plastic-free six-pack beer rings that break down into organic material. Patagonia turns plastic bottles into parkas. Lush Cosmetics creates solid shampoo bars to reduce packaging waste. It's possible. It's happening. Follow their example.

What does it take for the average man to view his actions and realize his impact on the environment? The consumption of plastics towards pollution, overexploitation for profits, and destroying habitats of organisms are only a few of the stresses we throw onto the environment. Earth was made as a place for all organisms to share, not only humans. It was our mistake to pollute the environment, but now it is our duty to cure those we have harmed.
