🥇 1st Place - Best Prologue (Whispers Beneath the Ice mini-awards, 2025) 🥈 2nd Place - Best Writing Style (Enchanted Grave Awards, 2025) 🥈 2nd Place - Best Villain (Starfish Awards, 2025) ⸻ ✧ ⸻ Beneath the earth, the sun is only a memory - and its light is no longer free. The powerful have bottled it, priced it, and called it holy. Every flicker, every breath, must be paid for in Lumen. Lucy Farrow was born in the Gloom, where the air tastes of rust and hope is a dangerous thing. Her mother taught her to keep her glow low - to survive unseen. But when the light inside her begins to stir, Lucy's secret could unravel the order that keeps their divided city alive. High above, in the marble halls of the Halo, Prince Cassian Soleyne uncovers a secret among ink and dust - a forbidden lineage that could unmake the order he was born to protect. His duty is to snuff it out: his heart tells him to save it. As rebellion brews in the dark and doubt kindles in the light, their paths will cross - and together they will awaken a fire long thought dead. A Radiant who could bring back the dawn... or burn the world to ash. ⸻ ✧ ⸻ His guest merely nodded sharply. "Until next time, mister Briar". With that, he turned and marched toward the door - his colleagues followed him close behind. Lucy could hear their footsteps fade away and relief washed over her. As soon as it did, the lanterns of the chandelier rattled softly - the Lumen danced for a split second, as if celebrating. But that was enough. The agents abruptly turned around, having seen the shadows on the floor - slowly, they aimed their emotionless gazes skyward, staring at the chandelier. "Tell me, mister Briar", the captain spoke, his eyes still fixated upon the lamps, "Does your Lumen always malfunction like this?" The Lantern Man tapped with a finger on the desk. "As a matter of fact, sir - yes, it does. It's still an old batch: it flickers all the time. I ought to get it replaced soon".

People don't just disappear for no reason. Across the country, teenagers begin developing unexplained abilities. No one can explain it, and the government stays silent- until it doesn't. When the truth begins to surface, a national lockdown is enforced across England. Just like that, ordinary life becomes a death sentence. As cities fall under strict surveillance and movement becomes restricted, young people who manifest powers are labelled dangerous and removed from society without explanation. Fear spreads faster than information, and trust between communities begins to collapse as disappearances increase. Their powers woke up but so did the goverment.

Verses of Defiance is a searing collection of protest poems that pulse with the raw energy of resistance. From whispered dissent to full-throated cries for justice, these verses capture the spirit of those who challenge oppression, inequality, and silence. Each poem is a spark, igniting hope and demanding change in a world that too often turns away. Bold, unyielding, and unapologetic, this anthology speaks truth to power and invites readers to join the chorus of defiance.

A tale of intergenerational BIID over centuries. In prep school I became a close friend of Brian Meadows. His mobility impairment was obvious. Over time its cause became evident as he described a peculiar turn of mind shared by generations of privileged ancestors whose story reaches back well into 18th century France. This is a work of fiction. Any resemblance to persons or situations other than those that are clearly general knowledge is pure coincidence. The story is excerpted and adapted from my much longer novel "Buddies." I hope you will enjoy reading it as much as I have writing it.

It's a seat that once belonged to her mother, until she was framed for crimes against humanity and executed by Joanna's uncle. With time running out, Joanna must journey across Darand's outer boroughs to its capital, facing danger at every turn, and prove her late mother's innocence ... or leave Darand to rot under her uncle's rule. It's a trip she'd planned to take alone, but when Chancellor Wolford catches wind his niece is not just alive but actively staging a coup, Joanna must turn to a shy (and handsome) metalsmith's apprentice for help. There's just one problem: The apprentice might've been the one to blow Joanna's cover. --- **Do NOT put this story on Goodreads, please. I appreciate it.**

"When we get out of here, you're gonna write me a song about this, okay?" ✦ ✦ ✦ Rebellion is always right. Oyza yearns for revolution, an impossible dream under a lifetime prison sentence. Fueled by the destruction of her home and years of servitude, she survives on smuggled texts from the Ungoverned, rebels who claim a world without kings is possible. Then Yars arrives. A charming thief with a dangerous past, Yars offers Oyza more than escape: he offers her a way to fight back. But freedom beyond the prison walls leads her to a truth buried beneath the ruins of Oyvassa, her home city, one that could shatter the order ruling Vaaz itself. Hunted by a ruthless commander tied to her past and pursued by foreign invaders from across the sea, Oyza is driven toward a rebellion hidden deep within the swamps of her homeland. There, alliances fracture, survival becomes uncertain, and victory may demand more blood than any of them are prepared to give. When blood is spilled, how much will be their own? ✦ ✦ ✦ "...a fantasy adventure maintaining a brisk pacing of action and intrigue within a well-built story world full of rich detail... Marked as mature for: - death, violence - grief, depression, alcoholism, domestic abuse - vague references to sexual assault, torture, suicide - sex scenes (consensual) Not a trigger warning but this story features LGBT+ characters so if you're gonna say anything icky about that just know your comments will be deleted. Maybe save me the trouble and be nice instead :) Re: other comments pleaase don't give negative or even constructive feedback unless I've asked you specifically for it. Unless it's spelling, grammar, or a blatant plot hole/inconsistency. If you just don't like the style it's written in, I ask that you kindly move on, to a story that fits your tastes better. Though if you're here it's most likely because you've read the first book, so if you've read this far I would HOPE you actually enjoyed it lmao And though my writing style has evolved a lil bit, I very much hope you enjoy this one too.

In a technologically advanced monarchy, fear is maintained through spectacle. Every few years, six "traitors" are selected and released into the country. They are hunted by the king's sons in a nationally broadcast event. Officially, it proves the crown's strength. Unofficially, it keeps the population too terrified to rebel. No one has ever survived. Until now.
