The Diamonds were grieving after Pink Diamond's shattering. They decided to avenge her by shattering Rose Quartz. They almost did; Rose Quartz barely managed to escape, however, their battle left a crack in her gem. Not being able to heal it by herself and being in shock at how many of her comrades were shattered, they lost the war. Earth became a colony. Rose saved those she could, until eventually the crack grew enough and she was broken. Luckily, she had met Gregory Universe and left her children behind with him.
