Cyborgs, violence, wastelands and... romance? Future Fiction is my assorted collection of contest entries and such. As for the shorts that aren't entries, they are stories set in the world of R.E.I.N. and Aphelion - other projects I work on as much as I can. Hope you enjoy! Alternate History Steampunk Fashion Dystopia Science Romance --- Julien is a regulation-compliant young presser at the local dhobitorium, and the best Londoni iron man there is. When a Code-violating dandy recruits him to arrange a wardrobe malfunction for a prominent general of the Hauteorian Guard, Julien is faced with the realization that he may have skills to do something more than comply. Partnered with dandy sitar-player Murphy, Julien joins a diverse crew of rebel agents associated with powers in the rising Fashion Capital of Cairo. On the run from the Fashion Police, Julien travels by steam-cabriolet, submari, and flying solar barque to distant lands. With a sister serving in the Fashionista's elite Hauteorian Guard, a mother unseen since her arrest, and allies in multiple Fashion Capitols, Julien's loyalties are frequently tested. They are a lost people with no history. All they have is a Legend of a forgotten God. Until he discovers a path to their past. And now they want to escape.

One minute he was on the phone and the next the kid was being transported to a waiting spaceship. This is Cal Priest's entry in the SciFi Competitions Challenge 8 - Duoabble (a 200 word story).

Finding a place one belongs is no easy task, particularly when one is stuck in space on a colonial ship to damaged to make the trip to the real colony, and instead finds itself hurtling towards the Demon Colony. The place called the Demon Planet was thought to be an urban legend, a space myth, and yet they find themselves entwined with the secrets of the past. Gaara knows everyone needs a purpose but after the Chunin exams the purpose he once had disappeared. The twelve-year-old shinobi finds himself heading out to the desert for self-discovery, learning to use his abilities to actually protect someone other than himself. Far outside the village, to the point he can no longer see the walls, he finds himself encountering strangers from another world, but also things he didn't expect. Disclaimer - I don't own Naruto. This is an AU where the world of Naruto isn't Earth, but instead a planet the people choose to colonize, but later abandoned for unknown reasons. (I know the reasons, but that's another story.) This is written for the Just Write It for April 2016 as well as the Project Constellation SciFriday contest.
