Mikkado
“I’m going for a walk, Dad.”
“Be home for dinner or your mother will be mad.” David’s father said.
“OK. Tomorrow."
By the time his father looked up from his computer David was gone. He walked through the freezing desert night and the blistering hot day. By late afternoon he saw the double chain-link fence topped with razor wire that surrounded the top secret weapons facility in the Nevada wasteland.
“What on Earth?” Sam looked up from his console, then magnified the glass of the air-conditioned guard’s post. Five minutes later the boy stood in front of his door. “How’d you do that?”
“Do what?” David giggled at the guard.
“Walk through the fence, the mine field and the next fence?”
“It just happens. Now I need to–.”
“No!” The hybrid guard screamed when he felt the buzzing in his head. Was this kid, this human natural, and activating the kill chip in his brain. After a string in his head Sam asked, “What did you do?”
“I deactivated the chip in your brain.”
“How? Who are you?”
“The Redeemer will arrive here tomorrow. You are the superior race. It is time for your human creators to depart.”
