Birdie had gone through most of her life as a military engineer within the Garrison Regiment peacefully. She didn't have to fight titans, just come up with weapons and contraptions that would prevent them from breaking down the walls that protected humanity. However, the discovery of a human having the ability to transform into a titan changed all of that, causing her to leave her current military position for a new, much more dangerous one. This story takes the life of an Eldian-Marleyan woman as an example of people's lives during the Eldian-Marleyan war. Rosanna Bauer experiences oppression from the Marleyan state from the age of 5 as an orphan to far into her adult years. As an experienced nurse, and later on-in-life doctor, she is sent along with the army to fight the devils on the island of Paradis. Alongside her childhood rival and her difficult, enigmatic friend Zeke Yeager, she tries to make sense of a world that wants her and her people dead.

An unfinished passion project I worked on in the summer and never finished. Was inspired to write this fic and explore the heavy and ugly feelings of grief. Especially that of the veteran scouts. While they have experienced a significant loss, they are never shown to truly grieve in the anime. This fanfiction shows how the grief builds up, and eventually comes out behind closed doors. Levi and Hange are only human too.
